The history of Northcote Taekwondo dates back to the early 1970s when Grandmaster Young Youl Oh, a highly accomplished practitioner and instructor from Korea, established Oh's Taekwondo Centre in Collingwood. Over the years, the club has experienced various location changes, but it has remained dedicated to providing exceptional training under the leadership of Grandmaster Oh, who currently holds a prestigious 9th Dan black belt. The Northcote High School branch was opened in 2004, and the club then adopted the name PACE Taekwondo.

Taekwondo itself is a Korean martial art with a rich history. It was formed through the merging of five original kwans (schools) - Chungdokwan, Songmookwan, Jidokwan, Moodukkwan, and Changmookwan. Taekwondo is renowned for its effectiveness in self-defence, incorporating striking, blocking, evasive, and manipulative techniques. The artistry of the movements lies in their circular and free-flowing nature, creating a balance between power and aesthetics.

At Northcote Taekwondo, individuals of all ages and skill levels can become part of a supportive and dynamic community where they can learn and grow in their Taekwondo journey. The club is committed to providing top-quality instruction and promoting physical fitness, mental resilience, and personal growth for all its members.
