The club was established on October 11, 1964, originally as a co-operative, with meetings being held at the Angler's Hall in Maribyrnong. Back then, the club had 90 members and funds of 330 pounds. Over the years, the club has grown and evolved, with the original en tout case surfaces being replaced by mod grass.

The coaching programme at Maribyrnong Park Tennis Club is headed by Anthony Burke, who was appointed as club coach in 1995. The coaching programme continues to thrive, operating six days a week. The club is dedicated to ensuring the safety and empowerment of children, and as an affiliated club of Tennis Victoria, it adopts its Child Safety commitment.
