Lauriston Lawn Tennis Club began in a northern lane off Kangaroo Rd, west of Poath Rd. The seven asphalt courts behind the Hughesdale Dairy (now flats) were used by Lauriston for 30 years from 1927. Mr. Banfield was President from 1927 - 1940.
Around 1947 Lauriston moved from Kangaroo Road to Dalny Road. Lauriston shared the Dalny Road set up with the Beauville Tennis Club (Beauville Avenue runs off Murrumbeena Road). Beauville had courts numbered one and two, and Lauriston had courts three to six. The clubhouse was shared between Beauville and Lauriston.
What used to be Beauville and Lauriston is now St Patrick’s (church) tennis club.
Lauriston moved from Dalny Road to Rosanna Street in 1955. Prior to the move, there were long negotiations with the then Caulfield City Council. John Mitchell helped clear the blueberries from the Rosanna Street land before he did his National Service training in the Navy.
Rosanna Street has been our home since then. In May 2000 the clubhouse and its contents were destroyed by a fire and 18 months later a new, modern clubhouse was opened.
The Club is committed to, not only maintaining the courts, grounds, and clubhouse but continually improving them. Some recent improvements include a water tank and conservation system, new spectator seating, shade sails, increasing light up times, better signage, junior development and increasing membership and teams.
