Kaizen Mixed Martial Arts - Melbourne

Kaizen Mixed Martial Arts was officially started in Brisbane 2008 and has been running for seven years; and going strong. Kaizen MMA has now opened a new Melbourne club based at 14/306 Albert Street Brunswick, just near the Brunswick Train Station.

Kaizen was started as a way to bring Foot & Fist Boxing to Brisbane while giving those interested in learning it a place to train. It aimed to emphasise sparring and live applications of the techniques over kata and ‘open air’ kicks and punches. Due to the founder’s belief that no one style holds all the answers, Kaizen MMA also incorporates groundwork and reality based self-defence into its curriculum in an effort to give each student a realistic idea of the stresses of combat while giving them a platform to grow as martial artists in a safe and supportive environment.

As a club, we strive to allow all members to have a say in their own development and emphasise spiritual growth amongst a group of people with the same passion and interest.

We also aim to develop a mix of traditional virtues beliefs taught in a way that does not compromise the reality of the environment and reality of today’s society.

A large part of our training is the conditioning of the body and mind through exercise and technique work and a high level of sparring in the most realistic but controlled environment possible.

In July 2012, a significant milestone was achieved at Kaizen MMA with the graduation of its first three black belt students; congratulations to Riley Moloney, James O’Connor, and Minh Nguyen.

Since then three others have joined the ranks of Black Belts under Kaizen MMA, Owen Cox, Gary Hunter and then his wife and second female Black Belt, Susan Hunter.
