The Irish Wolfhound Club of South Australia Inc. is a sports club located in Adelaide, dedicated to the welfare, promotion, and responsible breeding of the Irish Wolfhound breed. The club was founded in 1996 by a group of owners and breeders with the goal of helping the breed flourish and providing a quantity of these beautiful dogs for the show ring. In June 2013, the club became incorporated after 19 years as a social club.
Membership in the Irish Wolfhound Club of South Australia Inc. is open to everyone, including other breed owners, and all are made most welcome. The club has members throughout Australia and New Zealand, with overseas members in the United Kingdom and the United States. The club publishes a quarterly magazine that is posted to all members.
Within the state of South Australia, shows are held under the auspices of Dogs SA, located at SACA Park, Cromwell Road, Kilburn. The club is affiliated with the South Australian Canine Association and organises a variety of events throughout the year, details of which can be found on the South Australian Events page.
The members of the club include Irish Wolfhound breeders, families, and owners with one or more hounds. Some members participate in conformation and obedience shows, while others simply enjoy the company of their hounds as companions. The club also has a network of helpers coordinated by the Rescue Officer, who deal with abandoned Irish Wolfhounds within South Australia.
The club’s journal, titled “Cuid Fios” (Shared Knowledge), is published quarterly, and subscription rates are $25. 00, which includes four issues of the magazine.
