Innovative Martial Arts is a family-friendly sports club located in Canning Vale, Perth. The aim of Innovative Martial Arts is to provide a safe and positive environment for its students. The club is owned by Head Instructor Damien Merrin, who has been involved in Martial Arts for 30 years. Damien's passion lies in coaching and passing on his knowledge to his students.
At Innovative Martial Arts, they offer a variety of programmes suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Whether you are looking to get fit, learn self-defence, or meet new people, they have something for you. They cater to kids as young as 4 years old, as well as beginners and advanced students.
One of the main programmes offered at the club is Tae Kwon Do, a Korean martial art that focuses on dynamic and explosive kicking. Innovative Martial Arts has also incorporated western boxing into their syllabus, providing a well-rounded martial art experience. The main focus of the Tae Kwon Do programme is on self-defence while developing strength and fitness.
Another programme offered is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which is a predominantly ground-based martial art. It utilises leverage, angles, pressure, timing, and knowledge of human anatomy to achieve a non-violent submission of one's opponent. Unlike other martial arts that focus on strikes and kicks, Jiu Jitsu focuses on close-contact grappling holds, techniques, chokes, and joint manipulations.
The Kickboxing programme at Innovative Martial Arts is a high-intensity training programme that combines elements of Western Boxing and Tae Kwon Do. It involves padwork and fitness training to improve strength and cardiovascular endurance.
For the younger ones, the Lions Cubs programme is designed for children aged 4 and 5. It acts as an introduction to the Tae Kwon Do and Jiu Jitsu programmes, with a focus on life skills such as listening to parents and teachers and understanding stranger danger.
In addition to martial arts classes, Innovative Martial Arts also offers Yoga classes. Each class is tailored to the individual's specific needs, whether it be deepening poses, relaxing the mind, releasing emotional blockages, or improving general well-being. Yoga teaches participants how to be grounded, fully conscious, and aware of their body and state of mind.
The club also offers Boxing classes for beginners, with a focus on learning the correct techniques through high-intensity training. They also provide competition training for those interested. Classes are available for both kids and adults.
To accommodate different schedules, Innovative Martial Arts offers a flexible timetable with classes available throughout the week. They also provide a free trial so that prospective members can experience the programmes before committing.
The team at Innovative Martial Arts is made up of knowledgeable and experienced coaches. In addition to Head Coach Damien Merrin, there are Tae Kwon Do Coach Tanika Timms, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Coach Edilson Moraes, Strength and Conditioning Coach Ben Ang, Kids Boxing Coach Aziz Ghannoum, and Assistant Coaches Ricki Arnold for Tae Kwon Do and BJJ.
