Idokan Australia, Craigieburn Martial Arts Centre, is a sports club located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Established in 2015, the Centre was built to provide a unique training venue for students interested in studying traditional Japanese martial arts. They offer classes in Jujutsu, Iaido, Jodo, and Judo.
The Centre boasts highly experienced instructors who are certified in Japan and have over 40 years of experience in martial arts. The principal instructors, Kevin and Leanne Walsh, have been teaching since the early 1980s and are well respected both nationally and internationally. In fact, the CMAC instructors have taught worldwide, showcasing their expertise and knowledge in martial arts.
At Idokan Australia, students not only learn traditional and modern martial arts techniques but also the traditional Japanese values of respect, discipline, and courtesy. The instructors focus on instilling these values in their students while providing rigorous training and guidance.
The Judo classes offered at Idokan Australia are suitable for both children and adults. Judo, meaning “gentle way,” was created in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano and has since become an Olympic sport. The objective of Judo is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilise or subdue them with a pin, or force them to submit with a joint lock or choke.
For children aged 6 to 10 years, Junior Judo classes are available. Judo serves as the foundation for all martial arts taught to young children at the Centre. Apart from learning self-defence techniques, children also develop important social skills as they learn to cooperate and communicate with their fellow students.
Idokan Australia, Craigieburn Martial Arts Centre, welcomes students from Craigieburn and the surrounding suburbs, including Mickleham, Roxburgh Park, Epping, Mill Park, Meadow Heights, Broadmeadows, Glenroy, Pascoe Vale, Greenvale, Donnybrook, Beveridge, and Wallan. The Centre is committed to providing a supportive and engaging learning environment for all students, regardless of their age or skill level.
