The half marathon is a running event where participants race on a 21.1km track or road as quickly as possible. It is a popular sport for all ages as it requires less training than a full marathon yet still challenges the participant's fitness and endurance. The winner is determined by the participant with the quickest finishing time. Around 170 half marathon events are held around Australia each year.
