Greensborough Baseball Club

A young man by the name of Alf Davey and his good mate Leo Hoyt called the formation meeting of the Greensborough Baseball Club in June of 1955. Alf became the first President of the club while Leo was the founding Secretary/Treasurer.

The first practise match was against Alphington on the 19/6/1955 which prepared the club for its first recorded match against Research for the title of the best in the Diamond Valley, in which Greensborough were defeated by Research 6-8. Greensborough finished 1955 with a constitution, a win over Research in the final game of the year and a foundation for a real functioning club.

The club has experienced great success at all levels, winning 13 A Grade topships along with 2 Women’s Division 1, 12 other senior men’s leadingships and over 20 junior titles. This is a great testament to the club; it not only strives to win A grade premierships but continues to run one of the most successful junior programmes in the Diamond Valley.

The club is commonly referred to as a family club. There are two main reasons for this, one you will notice by studying the surnames of committee members, scorers, managers, and players over the years, we have had a number of great families involved in many forms to keep this great club functioning. The second reason you will notice if you study the relationship Greensborough members have with each other. Many great friendships have been formed over the years.

The Greensborough Baseball Club and its members are always there for each other.
