The Gold Coast Cycling Club Inc. , established in June 2017, is a new sports club in Gold Coast. It is the result of the amalgamation of the Gold Coast Goldstars Cycling Club and the Gold Coast Cycling Club (formerly known as the CATS). Both of the founding clubs have a rich history in the development of the Gold Coast cycling community and the sport of cycling.
The primary aim of the Gold Coast Cycling Club is to foster the sport of cycling, particularly in the road and track disciplines. The club hosts various racing events throughout the year, including the JAKROO Wednesday Worlds series, which takes place during the summer months when there is sufficient daylight. This series caters to riders of all abilities and is divided into five different grades (A-E). The club also conducts Sunday racing events, usually with four grades (A-D).
In addition to racing, the Gold Coast Cycling Club also offers training sessions. One notable training session is the Road Training on Thursdays at 4:00pm. This session is proudly supported by Peter Young, Division 5 Councillor, and is provided free of charge to all participants. Prior registration is required.
The club can be contacted through the email address info@goldcoastcyclingclub. Com. au. The club is located at 1 Hope Street, Nerang, QLD, with a PO Box also available for correspondence at PO Box 470, Nerang, QLD.
The Gold Coast Cycling Club has received recognition for its excellence. In 2017, it was awarded the Cycling Australia Club of the Year and the Cycling Queensland Club of the Year.
One of the club's main annual events is the Darren Smith Classic, which is proudly sponsored by Choice Homes. This two-day event features a criterium at the Luke Harrop Criterium Circuit in Runaway Bay on the first day and a road race at Mt Alford on the second day. The Darren Smith Classic has been held for the past 29 years and serves as a tribute to Olympic cyclist Darren Smith, who tragically passed away in a cycling accident in 1992.
Overall, the Gold Coast Cycling Club is a vibrant and active sports club in Gold Coast, dedicated to promoting and nurturing the sport of cycling.
