The German Shepherd Dog Club of Victoria – Eastern Branch is a sports club located in Melbourne, Australia. As one of eleven branches of the German Shepherd Dog Club of Victoria Inc (GSDCV), the Eastern Branch is dedicated to the improvement, promotion, and protection of the German Shepherd Dog breed. Their mission is to educate members to be responsible owners and have well-behaved and socially acceptable pets.
At the Eastern Branch, they offer a wide variety of training activities in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Whether you are interested in competition obedience or simply gaining better control and having fun with your dog, their experienced and knowledgeable instructors can help. They firmly believe that training should be enjoyable for both the owner and the pet.
Training sessions at the Eastern Branch are held at J. W. Manson Reserve, located at the end of Selkirk Ave in Wantirna, Melbourne. All training classes begin promptly at 10:00am, so it is recommended to arrive by 9:30am to allow time for registration and for you and your dog to relax before the classes commence.
During the training sessions, you and your dog will learn various skills and behaviours. This includes socialising with other dogs, focus and attention training, basic commands such as sit, drop, and stand, recall (coming back when called), walking calmly and heeling, praise and play, leave command, problem-solving, and the opportunity to meet other like-minded German Shepherd Dog owners and their dogs and puppies.
It is important to bring rewards for your dog during the training sessions, which can be food, a favourite toy or object, or verbal praise. The Eastern Branch also emphasises polite socialising, particularly for dogs wearing the yellow and black “In Training GIVE ME SPACE! ” saddles or bandanas. These dogs may be shy, pregnant, nervous, or simply needing some space.
It is encouraged to ask the owner before approaching these dogs.
The club requires updated vaccination details for all registered dogs. Owners must provide a photocopy of the certificate showing proof of current C3 vaccination (annual or triennial) and annual Canine Cough KC vaccination, along with the due date of the next vaccination.
