About

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is an internationally recognised syllabus and was established in 1920 with the aim of developing and maintaining the highest possible standard of teaching. This remains its objective today. It is the largest examining and training body for classical ballet in the world. Classes range from Pre-Kindy through to senior Advanced.

Teachers following the Royal Academy of Dance system encourage students to achieve their personal best in the understanding, appreciation and performance of classical ballet. The Royal Academy of Dance stresses the importance of every student having an achievable goal. This philosophy is carried out in two ways; firstly that the syllabi are mainly related to development rather than age and secondly that achievement can be measured by Examination with progressively built graded examinations.

There are many artistic, educational and social benefits to be gained through classical ballet training. Classical ballet encourages an appreciation of dance as an art form and provides insight into not only ballet but to all the genres of dance. It assists with physical and mental development, postural awareness as well as improving overall core body strength and endurance. Those studying classical ballet will develop a general appreciation of music as well as developing new communication skills through a variety of social interaction.

Dance Classique has a strong team of classical ballet teachers that offer RAD classical ballet training for all levels. Dance Classique also offers speciality body conditioning and Pilates classes to assist with classical ballet training. Classical ballet training is essential to any dancer’s training and provides the dancer with highly developed technique, core strength, and poise. All of our classical ballet classes will follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Syllabus, and students will be given the option to undergo examinations midway through the year to be properly accredited in their respective grades.

Examinations are entirely optional (and will incur extra costs) but we highly recommend them for students who wish to excel in dance or wish to gain a future career in the profession.
