Croydon & District Obedience Dog Club Inc. is a sports club located in Croydon, Victoria, Australia. It is a not-for-profit organisation that is 100% volunteer-run and promotes responsible dog ownership using positive reinforcement methods. The club is situated at Silcock Reserve, providing a spacious and safe environment for training and activities.
Please note that due to high demand, the club is currently unable to offer places to new members with dogs over 12 weeks of age, with limited exceptions. Availability for specific levels and disciplines can be found on the club's website.
The club offers various classes and programmes for dogs of different ages and skill levels. Basic obedience classes are available for dogs aged 5 months and older, but at this time, new memberships for this level are not being accepted due to capacity constraints. Puppy classes are also offered for dogs aged 12 weeks to 5 months, but new memberships are currently closed for this level as well.
However, the club does offer puppy pre-school for dogs aged 8–12 weeks. Enrolments for puppy pre-school remain open, subject to availability. Interested individuals can email preschool@croydondogclub. com.
au for more information and to inquire about enrolment. Please note that pre-school classes book out 4–6 weeks in advance, so early registration is recommended.
The limited availability for new memberships is due to the club's extremely high demand for training. Every time a class is opened up, it sells out quickly. Additionally, the club's comprehensive courses, which run for two months for puppy classes and three months for basic obedience classes, means that there are long waiting periods before new classes can be offered. Current members of the club tend to continue their training, which leaves fewer places available for non-members.
Despite the limited availability for new memberships, the club has never stopped accepting new memberships at the pre-school level, and all pre-school classes are currently full. Puppies from pre-school classes continue on to puppy level and then progress through the basic obedience levels and beyond. This also limits availability for non-members at these levels.
Croydon & District Obedience Dog Club Inc. is dedicated to promoting positive reinforcement training methods and responsible dog ownership. In addition to teaching puppy and basic obedience classes, the club participates in and runs various canine sporting events as an affiliate of Dogs Victoria (Victorian Canine Association).
To ensure that handlers and dogs receive adequate assistance, the club limits class numbers. Depending on the availability of instructors, there may be a waiting period for class availability. It is recommended to regularly check the club's website and Facebook page for specific details regarding enrolment dates, as any available places fill up quickly.
For more information about the club's training principles and enrolment, interested individuals can visit the Training and Membership section on the club's website.
