Climbers Association of Western Australia (CAWA)

Australia (CAWA) is a representative body of climbers in Western Australia. Formed in 1968 and incorporated in August 1979, CAWA's main purpose is to promote and develop rock climbing, especially in WA, as well as protect and promote the interests of rock climbers in the region.

The management of CAWA is conducted by a committee, consisting of dedicated climbers who work together to fulfil the association's objectives. This committee formulates and publishes guidelines for climbers, encourages groups with similar interests to affiliate with the association, and provides a platform for rock climbers to meet and connect.

CAWA offers various activities and events for its members. Club Nights & Gym Crashes are organised to provide an opportunity for climbers to meet new people, test their skills, and socialise. These gatherings also allow members to stay updated on what's happening in the gyms, and CAWA members enjoy cheaper entry fees to climbing gyms on these occasions, with refreshments, usually in the form of pizza, provided.

Climbing trips are regularly organised by CAWA, allowing members to explore different climbing destinations in Western Australia. These trips provide members with the opportunity to learn from experienced climbers, participate in workshops, receive training, and benefit from mentorships.

CAWA also offers a membership programme, allowing individuals to become members and support the association's efforts to improve and ensure safer climbing experiences. Members receive perks such as discounts at shops and climbing gyms, among other benefits.

In addition, CAWA has a Bolting Fund, dedicated to maintaining the safety of climbing routes in the region. Climbers are encouraged to report any issues with bolts or routes that do not meet current safety standards. By making a donation to the Bolting Fund, climbers can contribute to CAWA's rebolting projects and ensure the ongoing safety of climbing areas.
