Established Chikara Karate (Sandringham) as a leading sports club in Melbourne. The club was originally founded in Casey suburb Endeavour Hills in 1985 by Sensei Joe Templin, who is the Chief Instructor. Due to its success, Chikara Karate expanded and opened a second studio in the Bayside suburb of Sandringham.
At Chikara Karate, the instructors are certified by the Australian Sports Commission (ausport) as Level 1 Coaches. They have undergone extensive training to provide excellent guidance and instruction to students of all levels. Chikara Karate is based on the Shukokai style, which evolved from the traditional Shito Ryu system. This dynamic martial art combines traditional values and disciplines with modern teaching methods, making it suitable for individuals seeking personal development, self-defence, and combat karate.
Chikara Karate focuses on effective techniques rather than relying on brute strength, which makes it accessible to both males and females of all ages. The martial art incorporates various disciplines such as kicking, punching, blocking, throwing, and grappling, making it a well-rounded activity for the whole family. By participating in Chikara Karate, members can improve their strength, fitness, flexibility, and coordination. Additionally, it enhances concentration, self-discipline, confidence, and strength of character.
As a member of Chikara Karate Studio, individuals have the opportunity to be affiliated with various karate organisations, including the Australian Karate Federation (AKF), Victorian Karate Federation, World Union Karate Organisation, and Kobe Osaka International (KOI). This affiliation allows for national and international opportunities in tournament fighting.
Sensei Joe Templin, the Chief Instructor, has an impressive background in karate and self-defence. He has 33 years of experience, holds a 5th Degree Black Belt, and has a Level 1 National Coaching Accreditation. Joe has also represented the state and national karate teams for many years and is a Government Licenced Karate Instructor.
In addition to his achievements, Sensei Joe Templin has travelled overseas to train and compete under several renowned masters. His extensive experience and expertise contribute to the high-quality instruction and guidance provided to members of Chikara Karate (Sandringham).
