About

The Central Queensland Mariners Football Club came into being officially on the 1st of September 2013. The club evolved out of Wolves Soccer Club which has been in operation since 1982. Former club President Mr Brian Niven was instrumental in the transition, and felt that with the clubs ambitions to participate in the National leading League a new beginning signalled the opportunity for a name change.

Brian Niven Park was established as a Football Park in 1982, but was officially named in 2008, and is now the home of the CQ Mariners FC Academy.

Wolves soccer club evolved as a result of the collapse of City Soccer Club in Gladstone in 1980. The City Soccer Club produced several players who went on to represent Wolves. Alan Raymond, Dale Fallon, Ricky Niven, Mark Lems, Brian Niven and Phil Hayne were all instrumental in forming the Wolves Soccer Club in 1982. This group of men led by former President Brian Niven managed to acquire the present block of land (almost 11 acres) and developed it into what has now become the only football Park in Central Queensland where football is played twelve months of the year.

The Park was named “Brian Niven Park” in honour of the former President Brian Niven.
