Caulfield Grammarians Soccer Club (CGSC) is a sports club located in Melbourne, Australia. With a rich and proud history, CGSC has been a prominent member of the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) since its establishment in 1920.
Before the formation of CGSC, “Old Boys” teams participated in matches as early as 1889. However, regular fixtures were not played until CGSC joined the MAFA in 1920. From then on, the club's home games were held at the School.
Throughout its history, CGSC has achieved significant milestones. In 1925, the club won its first premiership in B Section against Teachers' College. Eric Dakin, a former schoolboy star player, kicked an impressive 123 goals during the premiership season. Charlie Kitson became the first CGSC player to represent the club in a combined team in 1927, and George Cassidy won the B Section's best and fairest award in 1928.
Despite facing some setbacks, such as being dropped back to C and D Sections in 1931 and 1933, respectively, CGSC continued to compete and thrive. In 1940, a Junior “Old Boys” team was formed, but all competition came to a halt due to the Second World War. After the war, CGSC resumed its activities, and in 1949, the junior team recommenced. The club enjoyed another taste of topship success in 1949, winning the D Section flag against Murrumbeena.
Throughout the years, CGSC has produced talented players who have gone on to represent other teams. In 1950, Irving Davidson, Ron Ashbolt, and Ian Felsenthal were recruited by St Kilda before returning to CGSC in later seasons. These three players have remained strong supporters of the club.
In 1952, CGSC achieved promotion to C Grade, marking another milestone in the club's history. Over the years, CGSC has continued to compete at high levels, earning a reputation for its skills and dedication.
Today, CGSC is recognised as one of the top teams in the VAFA. The club offers opportunities for players of all ages, from school football to women's football and netball. CGSC also values community involvement, organising events and activities to connect with its supporters.
CGSC's home ground is located at Glenhuntly Oval, in North Caulfield. This accessible location allows supporters and players to easily attend games and training sessions.
With its long history, strong values, and talented players, Caulfield Grammarians Soccer Club continues to be a vital part of the Melbourne sports community, aiming to inspire and nurture the love for soccer in all its members.
