Calliope Central Bowls Club Inc

Calliope is located 20 km south-west of Gladstone and 23 km from the beautiful beaches of Boyne Island and Tannum Sands. All this in a relaxed, laid-back country atmosphere that is home to approx 4,000 locals and a host of facilities to keep them entertained and on their feet.

Calliope Central Bowls Club was formed in 1994 and as with most clubs starting out relied on the volunteer support and the old “chook raffles” to get it up and running. This has turned into a modern lawn bowls facility today with a state of the art artificial green and a full retractable shade cover over the playing surface.

Lawns Bowls is played both competitively and socially with the men’s competition held on Sunday’s; the ladies competition on Tuesdays and a mixed social competition on one Saturday every month (see “Playing Days for further information). Men and women are encouraged to play on each other’s day except championship days. Social members are also welcome to play on these days but need to check with the club prior to any game to ensure there is no official competition being played on the day.

The Club invites businesses and other organisations to hold social events such as work parties etc where a game of barefoot bowls can be enjoyed followed by an enjoyable meal prepared by our award-winning Chefs. There is a playground area for children and plenty of room for parents to sit back, relax and enjoy a cold drink while they keep an eye on them. This area also has a BBQ so if you want to cater for your own function, that isn’t a problem.

For guests holding functions at the club, we allow them to use the bowling green and provide them with bowls free of charge and are also happy to have some members assist in helping you to get your game underway and give you some knowledge on how the game is played.

The club is also active in the community holding regular charity days for Guide Dogs Qld, the local ambulance to name a couple as well as sponsor many of the local sporting clubs in Calliope.

The Club offers a “Membership for Life” deal costing $5. The Club is about to commence renovations to the interior of the clubhouse and also construct an 80 person function room on a second level on the northern end of the building.

Our kitchen is open for lunch 5 days a week, Wednesday to Sunday (12 to 2pm) and for evening meals 7 days a week from 6 to 8pm. Menu can be A La Carte or buffet style depending on the occasion.

Our Club Manager, Brad Henderson, is the best in the business and is well-supported by his helpful and friendly staff. We look forward to you visiting our club and enjoying the delights of the 2013 Qld Lawn Bowls Small Club of the Year.
