Located in Ocean Grove, just 15 minutes from Geelong, the Bellarine Volleyball Association (BVAI) is the leading place to play volleyball in Geelong, the Surf Coast, and the Bellarine Peninsula. With teams competing in various divisions, including Mixed Social, Mixed Competitive, Men's, and Women's, BVAI caters to players of all skill levels and interests.
BVAI started out as a daytime competition in the mid-1990s and due to its popularity, became Bellarine Volleyball Association Inc in 1997 and changed to Friday evenings. The club now runs two seasons throughout the year, Autumn (Feb – June) and Spring (July – December), with multiple divisions on offer within each season. From Autumn 2020 onwards, BVAI added dedicated Men's and Women's competitions to its offerings.
In terms of gameplay, Division 1 Mixed is BVAI's highest level of mixed competition, with many members also competing in state league competitions. Division 2 Mixed is a social competition catering to players who simply love playing volleyball without being overly concerned about the match outcome. This division also provides an opportunity for junior players to learn and improve their skills. Games take place on Friday evenings, starting at 7:30 pm and concluding at around 9:30 pm, with open weekly training sessions available from 6:30 pm prior to games.
The BVAI committee consists of dedicated individuals who work to ensure the smooth functioning of the association. The current committee members include Robin Petersen (President), Tom McKenzie (Vice President), Lachlan Madden (Secretary), Kerri Bruce (Treasurer), and committee members Gabriela Jablonski, Hope Mann, Jessica Middleton, Lachlan Graham, Miki Cooper, Mitchell Graham, Nicholas Vecoli, Sonia Kacprzak, Tyler Pil.
BVAI also values and recognises the contributions of its members through various awards. Life membership is awarded to past and current players who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the association, while volunteer awards are given to those who have dedicated their time and effort to better the association and volleyball in the city.
For those who want to get in touch with BVAI, there is a contact form available on their website, where individuals can submit their queries or messages. Additionally, team registration and individual membership forms can be found on the website for those interested in joining the association.
