1980s, the club adopted the iconic “Magpies” name, paying homage to the revered Australian native bird.
The Belconnen Magpies Football Club is located in Kippax, Canberra, and competes in the AFL Canberra grade competition. The club fields teams in six senior grades, including first and second grade men's and women's, men's regional, and men's and women's Rising stars competitions. This allows players of all skill levels and ages to participate and enjoy the sport.
The club has a proud history of on-field success, and the 2022 season was no exception. Our reserves team won the topship, the first grade men just fell short of a grand final victory, and our first grade women's team played in finals. With a returning coaching contingent and the addition of new players, the club is poised for an exciting and successful 2023 season. Coaches James Bennett, Paul Netting, and Lachie O'Sullivan will lead their respective teams, all of which are premiership contenders.
