Welcome to Bairnsdale Speedway Association Inc. , a volunteer-run sports club located in East Gippsland Shire. With a history spanning over four decades, the club originally began racing at Granite Rock Speedway on the outskirts of Bairnsdale and continues to call it home. From humble beginnings of daylight race meetings, the club has now progressed to night racing, conducting seven night race meetings per season from November to April.
In addition to its racing activities, Bairnsdale Speedway Association is deeply committed to giving back to the community. The club works closely with several volunteer groups, including the Community Volunteers Organisation, Lakes Entrance Lions Club, Community Events First Aid, and Sarsfield Fire Brigade. These groups assist with various aspects of the race meetings and the club makes annual donations to support their efforts.
Safety is a top priority for Bairnsdale Speedway Association, and the club has made significant upgrades to its track facilities over the past decade. In particular, the club has installed 360 metres of level 5 safety fencing, making it the highest safety fence in Victoria. This dedication to safety has garnered recognition from the Victorian Speedway Council, which voted Bairnsdale Speedway Association as the top speedway racing club in Victoria for the 2007/2008 season. Other improvements include updated lighting, improved spectator fencing, reconditioned canteen, enlarged pit area, and renovated toilet block.
BSA's raceway at Granite Rock also serves as a venue for State Championships. In the 2017/18 season, the Compact Speedcars competed for their State Title at the track. One of the highlights of the season is the Boxing Day race meet, which consistently attracts the largest crowd. This particular event features thrilling races with Super Sedans, VSC Sprintcars, Wingless Sprints, Limited Sportsman, and Standard Saloons.
