Join West Coast Mountain Guides for a five-day course of guided ice climbing on some of Scotland's finest ice falls. This course is perfect for individuals or couples who have previous experience with winter climbing.
In Scotland, ice climbs typically form from mid-February onwards, and by the start of March, they are often in excellent condition, providing accessible yet disproportionately big adventures on some of Scotland's most famous and impressive cliffs and mountains.
Throughout the week, climbers will have the opportunity to tackle grades III-V on some of Scotland's classic ice falls and gullies surrounding Ben Nevis, Creag Meagaidh, Bridge of Orchy, and Glencoe. The instructors will condense the essential skills into a short revision session before getting onto the routes, allowing participants to make the most out of their climbing experience. For those attending as a climbing pair, there will be coaching available to help lead harder routes.
During the course, climbers will further develop their winter climbing toolbox by learning essential skills such as assessing conditions, selecting appropriate routes, and being efficient and conserving strength on steeper ice. Our experienced instructors will also provide in-depth discussions on gear choice at these grades, ensuring that participants have the right equipment for their climbs.
Please note that participants should have previous winter climbing experience, ideally at least Grade III. The course fee includes guiding and instruction, but please consider additional costs such as accommodation, food, uplift, personal equipment, and insurance.
