John Richards, the driving force behind Zen-Shin Martial Art Academy Harborne in Birmingham, has been shaping martial artists since 1980. At Zen-Shin, students train in the time-honoured art of Shotokan Karate, with kickboxing classes also available. The academy instils “Black Belt Excellence,” pushing students to aim high, develop resilience, and never give up.
Classes cater to all age groups. The “Little Ninja” programme is for 5–6-year-olds, enhancing coordination and listening skills. For 7–11-year-olds, “Junior” classes build confidence and self-control, while promoting new friendships.
