Led by Chief Instructor Sensei Brian Bates, a 5th dan black belt, the academy boasts a team of highly qualified and experienced instructors. Each instructor is DBS checked, fully insured, and first aid trained, ensuring every student's safety and well-being.
Zanshin Karate Academy is affiliated with the prestigious British Combat Karate Association (BCKA), reflecting their high training standards and providing students with opportunities to participate in regional and national tournaments.
Sensei Brian Bates has been immersed in martial arts since he was nine. Starting with shotokan karate and moving to Bukonkai Karate International at nineteen, Brian has excelled in various tournaments, achieving top placements in kata and kumite. His dedication extends to practising Aikijujutsu, in which he earned his 3rd dan in December 2022, and studying Urban Combatives, enriching his teaching through continuous learning.
Founded in 2015, Brian established Zanshin Karate Academy to create a welcoming environment focused on understanding and applying kata. His passion for karate drives the academy's mission to support individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
