The Canoe Sports Trust is excited to announce the upcoming Youth Kayak Polo Event, tailored for youth organizations eager to showcase their skills on the water. The event is calling out to teenagers between the ages of 14-18, inviting them to form a team of five players with two reserves.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, participants should have a good grasp of paddling a closed cockpit kayak and be comfortable using a spraydeck. Essential paddling skills include maneuvering in all directions, familiarity with capsizing and exiting a kayak with a spraydeck, and the ability to swim 25 meters if needed.
This friendly competition aims to introduce young individuals to the thrilling world of kayak polo, fostering sportsmanship in a supportive setting. With ten teams in the lineup, teams will engage in two heats, playing four other teams before advancing to the semi-finals and finals.
Games will consist of one half lasting 8 minutes each, with approximately six games scheduled per hour. Participants will have the chance to hone their skills during supervised practice sessions when not actively competing. The event will be held at Nomad Kayak Clubs' facility on Bury Lake Young from 12 noon to 6 pm on Saturday, July 13th, 2024.
Team entry details and competition rules will be provided upon registration. It's crucial for all players to bring their own packed lunch, as the event kicks off early in the day. Refreshments and a light meal will be available at 4 pm for all attendees. Spectators are more than welcome to come and cheer on the teams, with the option to bring folding camp chairs for comfortable seating.
Team registration opens on April 1st and closes two weeks before the event on June 29th. Don't miss this opportunity to showcase your kayak polo skills and have a blast on the water with The Canoe Sports Trust!
