Yea Bowls Club Inc is a thriving sports club located in the scenic Murrindindi Shire of Victoria, Australia. Established on a date of historical significance, 13 September 1958, the club has been a prominent fixture in the community for over six decades. The club aims to not only provide a high-quality bowling experience but also serve as a vibrant social outlet for the residents of Yea and its surrounding areas.
The club currently boasts a membership of approximately 500 individuals, with around 350 active bowlers and 150 social members. In recent years, the club has endeavoured to elevate both its social activities and competitive standing to attract a broader range of participants. With the advancement of the Highton and Belmont residential areas, Yea Bowls Club has opened its doors to embrace the growing population and raise awareness of its presence as a flourishing social destination.
In addition to its picturesque location and friendly atmosphere, Yea Bowls Club offers a range of engaging activities for its members. Regular men's, ladies', and mixed social matches are hosted, allowing individuals to participate in friendly and enjoyable bowling games. Beyond the greens, the club organises various social events, including Friday Night Bistro, where members can gather and enjoy a delicious meal. The bistro alone serves an impressive average of 60-80 counter meals each Friday evening.
Competitive opportunities abound at Yea Bowls Club, with members able to join Club Championship events or take part in the Midweek (Tuesday) and Weekend (Saturday) Pennants in the Geelong Bowls Region competition. Last year, the club achieved a remarkable feat, with all seven Pennant teams qualifying for the finals. Notably, the Division 1 Pennant team emerged victorious, securing the topship title and moving up to the esteemed leading League, the top grade for Geelong and Ballarat combined.
Facility-wise, Yea Bowls Club boasts three outdoor greens, comprised of two grass greens and one synthetic green. The synthetic green, aptly named the 'Founder's Green', is situated in front of the clubhouse and features lighting that enables play in all seasons, day, or night. Below the clubhouse, a four-rink carpeted green is available for coaching and practise throughout the year. In winter, the carpeted green can be heated for regular matches.
The large clubhouse or function room of Yea Bowls Club can accommodate over 160 members, players, and guests. Alongside, a commercial-grade kitchen is utilised by members or the club's in-house caterer to provide appetising meals for club events.
Yea Bowls Club warmly invites locals and non-members to discover the exceptional camaraderie and vibrant spirit that permeates the club. Attendees of the club's popular post-game wrap events have experienced a remarkable sense of community, with attendance gradually increasing from 30-40% to an impressive 80-90%.
