Excited to be the Introduction Coordinator at Yamagawa School of Martial Arts & Yoga. With a passion for teaching and sharing his knowledge, Evan is dedicated to helping new students gain a strong foundation in the martial arts.
The Yamagawa School of Martial Arts & Yoga, located in Seaford, Victoria, Australia, is an official branch of the Fudoshin Ryu. Founded by Darren Ball, a Fudoshin Master with 32 years of apprenticeship under his father, Tony Ball, the school offers a comprehensive training programme in traditional Japanese Budo.
The school not only provides regular training sessions at its Seaford Dojo, which is situated in the Seaford Community Centre on the corner of Station and Broughton Streets but also conducts courses, workshops, and seminars in various locations around the country and even internationally in Japan.
Fudoshin Ryu is a system of martial arts training developed by Robert Lawrence in 1968. It incorporates techniques, philosophy, and syllabus from disciplines such as Judo, Jujutsu, Karate, Aikido, and Weaponry. This multidiscipline approach ensures that students receive a well-rounded education in martial movement and applied philosophy, also known as Sogo Bugei in Japanese.
At Yamagawa School of Martial Arts & Yoga, students are introduced to the foundation disciplines through a 4-week Introduction Course. Valued at $120, this course, available for only $39. 99, covers fitness, strength, and conditioning, as well as Karate movements, Judo movements, and Weaponry movements. Students also learn fundamental customs, forms, and rituals of Japanese Martial Arts, along with essential movements and exercises.
The Judo section of the curriculum focuses on throwing and grappling techniques, originating from traditional Japanese Jujutsu. It emphasises disruption of balance, safe practise, and techniques for throwing, locking, and restraining opponents.
Karate, with its dynamic movements and emphasis on punches, kicks, strikes, and footwork, is another key component of the training programme. Originating in Okinawa, Karate is a highly practical method of self-defence.
Additionally, the Hanbojutsu section introduces students to the art of the half-staff, the Hanbo. This versatile weapon, often in the form of a walking stick or cane, provides students with defensive skills and techniques.
Evan Jones, the Introduction Coordinator, brings over 20 years of experience in martial arts to the school. His dedication to teaching and passion for the arts make him the ideal mentor for beginners at Yamagawa School of Martial Arts & Yoga.
Whether you are interested in fitness, self-defence, or the philosophical aspects of martial arts, Yamagawa School of Martial Arts & Yoga offers a comprehensive training programme that caters to all levels and interests.
