The Woronora Lifesaving and River Patrol Club, established in 1939, has been serving the local community by providing valuable water safety and lifesaving skills. Affiliated with the Royal Life Saving Society NSW Branch, the club is dedicated to actively engaging children and adults of all ages in water safety and lifesaving skills, as well as Royal Life Saving Awards, Pointscore events, and Inter-Club Competitions.
The Woronora Lifesaving Club is a welcoming and inclusive community that caters to children from 2 years old to adults, regardless of their ability. It offers a great opportunity for children to make new friends, stay active, and enjoy the beautiful Woronora River. The club's colours are Maroon and Gold, and its emblem is a life buoy with wings symbolising rescue equipment to prevent drowning.
The typical season of the Woronora Lifesaving Club starts on the second Sunday in October and runs until the end of March, with a break over the Christmas school holidays. During the season, the club organises Sunday Pointscore events, which include various land and water activities for different age groups. These events aim to enhance participants' skills and provide an opportunity for friendly competition.
For land events, participants compete in activities such as Beach Sprints and Beach Flags, while water events include Wade, Kickboard Swim/Wade, Swim Around Buoys, and Nipper Paddleboard, among others. The Iron Person event, which involves swimming and running, is open to all age groups. The order of events may vary, but generally, the day starts with the Beach sprint for all ages, followed by land events for younger age groups and water events for older age groups.
In the event of wet weather, participants are advised to check the club's website on the day to confirm if the Sunday Pointscore events will be held or cancelled. The events are organised for various age groups, ranging from 2/3 years old to seniors. Boys and girls compete separately, and points are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes, as well as for participation. At the end of the season, trophies are presented to the top three place getters in each age group, while competitors who did not place receive a competitor trophy.
