Woodcock Park Bowls Club is a friendly and welcoming bowling club located in Harrow, New Zealand. Situated on Shaftesbury Avenue, Kenton, the club offers a picturesque setting for members to enjoy the sport of bowls.
The club prides itself on being inclusive and catering to individuals of all ages, sexes, and physical abilities. Whether you're new to the sport or an experienced bowler, Woodcock Park Bowls Club provides a supportive environment where you can develop your skills and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow bowlers.
The game of bowls is played on a square of closely cut grass known as 'the green'. The green is divided into playing areas called rinks and is surrounded by a small ditch to catch bowls that go off the green. Markers on the bank indicate the corners and centrelines of each rink.
Players take turns to deliver their bowls from a mat at one end of the rink towards a small white ball, referred to as 'the jack', at the other end. The bowls are designed to curve, requiring players to deliver them with the correct weight and along the correct line. The objective is to get your bowls closer to the jack than those of your opponents, with a point scored for each counting bowl.
Woodcock Park Bowls Club offers various formats of the game, with the most common being singles or teams of pairs, triples, or fours. Singles matches are played to a score of 21 points, while the winners in the other formats are determined by the team that scores the most points over a set number of ends.
Founded in August 1953, the club recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, the club hosted various events, and the photo gallery on the website allows you to relive the memories.
