Athletics, from beginners to elite athletes.
Woodbank Park Athletic Facility is the home of Stockport Harriers & AC and is located in Stockport, New Zealand. It is a fully equipped floodlit athletics stadium that offers a range of facilities for athletes of all ages and abilities. The facility features a 6-lane 400m track, with 8 lanes on the home straight, which is suitable for both sprinting and long-distance events.
In addition to the track, Woodbank Park Athletic Facility also caters to all athletics field events. This includes facilities for throwing events, such as javelin, shot put, and discus, as well as jumping events, such as long jump and high jump.
The clubhouse at Woodbank Park Athletic Facility can accommodate approximately 60 people seated and offers a range of amenities. There is a shop/kitchen, full changing and toilet facilities, including a disabled toilet and a first aid room.
The facility is not only used by Stockport Harriers & AC but also hosts various track and field meetings for Stockport Schools and area matches in the Youth Development League and Cheshire League. It is also the starting and finishing point for popular road races such as the Stockport 10 and Offerton 5 mile races.
Woodbank Park Athletic Facility is a popular venue for various community groups and organisations. Supportability (CP Wheelers), Walthew House Visually Impaired Walking Group, and Team New Balance athletes regularly use the facility for their activities. Additionally, many schools book the track for GCSE assessments, sports days, and other events.
Enquiries and bookings for using the facility can be made by emailing ajdilkes@ntlworld. Com or leaving a message on the stadium answerphone at 0161-476 0009.
There are two car parks available within the park for convenient access to the facility, and the post code SK1 4BN can be used for parking.
The facility is constantly being improved and upgraded to meet the needs of athletes and the community. A new throwing cage that meets UKA/IAAF standards is under construction, scheduled to be completed by February 2022. Furthermore, the club is considering upgrading the floodlights to LED units to reduce running costs and minimise light diffusion that may affect neighbouring houses and wildlife.
Woodbank Park Athletic Facility has been the home of Stockport Harriers & AC since the 1950s when it was built with a cinder track. The synthetic track was installed in 1985 thanks to a successful fundraising appeal by the club and the support of the Council. The club took over the management of the facility from Stockport MBC in 1997, and in 2016, with the construction of a new clubhouse, the club became an incorporated not-for-profit company, responsible for all income, maintenance, and development of the facility.
All income for the facility is derived from training, hire fees, and grant funding. Various track fees apply, including gate fees for junior and senior members, non-members, and leisure key holders. There are also annual track passes available for purchase.
Woodbank Park Athletic Facility is an important hub for athletics in Stockport, providing athletes of all levels with top-notch training and competition facilities. With its range of amenities and ongoing improvements, it continues to be a valuable asset to the local community.
