Old Parkonians Cricket Club's Women's Touch Rugby is a local activity that offers all the competitive fun of rugby without the contact. It's the perfect way to get fit, learn some skills, and have a mid-week social catch up.
Since kicking off in April with 8 players, the activity has grown to have a squad of 20. Players aged 14 and over are welcome to join in on the action. Thanks to the Wirral Women's Touch Rugby League, which began in 2015, the game has seen a surge in popularity with many new players joining in.
Game nights occur every other Wednesday, and they take place across various clubs in the Wirral, from Hoylake to New Brighton. Each game night features three 10-minute games with rolling substitutes, ensuring everyone gets a chance to participate and rest when needed. The atmosphere during the games is simply fantastic, and afterward, players gather at the hosting team's clubhouse for a well-deserved drink and snacks.
Training sessions are held at Parkonians every other Thursday, so if you're looking to get fit and learn new skills, this is your opportunity. In fact, the group recently organised a successful post-training Jubilee Picnic, adding to the social aspect of the activity. And that's not all! There's an awards evening with a BBQ and a tour to Spain planned for next year.
To show support for the local club, mark your calendars for Wednesday 6th July, when Old Parkonians Cricket Club will be hosting the Wirral Women's Touch League game night. Everyone is invited, so come along and cheer for your favourite players.
Looking ahead, the goal for next season is to enter at least two teams. So, if you're interested in giving Women's Touch Rugby a try, reach out to Emma Westwater on 07975619361. It's an amazing opportunity to be part of this fantastic sporting community. Don't miss out!
