Founded in 2001, Woden Valley Soccer Club has been making waves in the world of senior soccer in Canberra. With a rich history of achievements and a commitment to the sport, this club has become a force to be reckoned with.
In its inaugural season, the club's Masters men's and Masters women's teams showcased their skills and donned the colours of sky blue and red. It wasn't an easy start, but it marked the official arrival of Woden Valley Soccer Club in senior football.
The following year, the club established itself as a separate entity, incorporating other state league sides. Bill Wood took on the role of the club's very first President, guiding it towards success.
In 2003, the women's teams made their mark in SL1 women's football. Both teams entered the season with determination and ended up achieving great results. The SL1 women's team won the prestigious Elaine Watson cup and became minor premiers, while the Masters Div 1 team secured the minor premiership as well.
Buoyed by their previous success, Woden Valley Soccer Club aimed higher in 2004, entering the top level of women's football in Canberra. The men's Masters team also had a stellar season, winning the minor premiership and grand final, signaling the start of a golden era for the team.
With a renewed focus on Capital Football, the club underwent a name change in 2005, becoming Woden Valley Soccer Club. A new President, John Helgesen, stepped in, bringing fresh perspectives and ideas. The men's Masters team continued their winning streak, claiming another premiership and grand final victory.
The club's commitment to fostering talent and providing a pathway for juniors led to the entry of the men's SL1 and SL2 teams in 2006. Under the guidance of Tony Olivera, both teams thrived throughout the season, leaving fans excited for the future.
In 2007, Woden Valley FC was awarded a three-year Premier League license, a testament to its achievements and dedication. With Tony Olivera at the helm of the 1st grade side and Alan Hinde as President, the club achieved success on multiple fronts. The Men's Masters team reclaimed their position at the top, winning the minor premiership and grand final. The PL 18s team also made their mark, clinching the premiership and champions title in their maiden Premier League season.
Progress continued in the Premier League in 2008, with the 1st grade narrowly missing out on a finals spot under the leadership of coach Paul Gagetti. The U18/PL team maintained their fine form, reaching another grand final. Meanwhile, the U16/PL team dominated the Kanga Cup and secured the premiership. Numerous other teams, including the SL2 men, Masters men, SL5, and women's masters, also enjoyed success in their respective finals.
