David Evans, the organiser, extends a heartfelt welcome to the Witney sports community. Situated in the charming market town of Witney, West Oxfordshire, Witney Town Bowls Club boasts a rich history, with over 110 years on its original site. The club offers outdoor bowls in the summer and indoor short mat bowling during winter.
David has always valued the club’s integral role within the Witney community. Maintaining close ties with local councils and groups such as Witney Lions, Rotary, Age UK, and the local Boccia group, the club remains a hub for social connectivity. The modern pavilion, constructed in 2014 with the help of a Community Grant and member contributions, is fully accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters, even earning the 'Inclusive Symbol' from the District Council.
Convenient access is ensured with level entry and disabled parking spaces at the front gates. The pavilion is available for local functions, meetings, activities, and parties, making it a versatile community asset.
As a Community Amateur Sports Club, Witney Town Bowls Club, under David’s guidance, welcomes members from all backgrounds, without any membership restrictions. Affiliated with Bowls England and the English Short Mat Bowling Association, the club provides various competition and league opportunities.
David encourages visitors from other clubs to include Witney Town Bowls Club in their touring schedule. While visiting, explore Witney’s fascinating history, notably its blanket-making heritage. The surrounding Cotswold towns and villages offer many good hotels, some with their own bowls clubs welcoming visiting bowlers.
You can find the club at The Leys, Station Lane, Witney, OX28 4AR. For Sat Nav, use OX28 4YG. It’s located on Station Lane, opposite Avenue Two, with a large blue sign reading “PARKSIDE” as a landmark.
