At the Wirral Watersports Centre, nestled at the scenic West Kirby Marine Lake on the River Dee, activities await water sports enthusiasts of all levels. Whether it's windsurfing, dinghies, wingfoils, kayaks, canoes, or paddleboards, organiser Sam has ensured there's something for everyone.
Open year-round from 9am to 4pm on weekdays and weekends, Sam invites sports players to launch their personal non-powered crafts and soak up the stunning views of Wales and Hilbre Island. For those seeking structured learning, the Centre also offers various courses and instructor-led sessions.
Safety is a priority, with the Watersports Team, led by Sam, regularly monitoring weather conditions via a newly-installed weather station. If you're planning a visit, remember to purchase your licence in advance, with options ranging from a One Day Ticket at £13 to an Annual Licence at £170.
Booking is straightforward, and Sam suggests pre-booking and pre-paying for licences, sessions, and courses online or via telephone during operating hours. Advanced courses might have prerequisites, so check before booking. A new entrance gate system is being installed to streamline the parking process.
For existing members with a three-month licence, there's the added convenience of booking up to three days in advance. Sam emphasises the importance of cancelling bookings if plans change, as no-shows are recorded.
Courses and activities run throughout Spring, Summer, and Autumn, including junior and adult sailing, windsurfing sessions, RYA powerboat courses, plus private tuition and taster sessions. Full details can be found on the Centre's website.
Looking ahead, Sam is excited to release the programme for next year in early 2024, ready to welcome all water sports enthusiasts for a thrilling adventure at the Wirral Watersports Centre.
