Winscombe Bowling Club is a friendly mixed club located in the heart of Winscombe village, near Cheddar and Weston super Mare in Somerset. The club was established in 1921 by three gentlemen who played bowls on the lawn of a house called 'Hampden' in the village.
Winscombe Bowling Club prides itself on fostering a good social atmosphere and offers various social activities, including the Monday Night Club and two internal leagues. However, the club also competes in more competitive matches. The Men's teams participate in the Somerset County League with two teams and the Weston Over 55's Triples League, achieving considerable success. The Ladies' teams play in the North Somerset Triples League and the Wessex league.
Both the Men and Ladies also participate in national and county club competitions.
In terms of community involvement, the club recently presented a cheque for 2700 to Lucie Perryman from Children's Hospice South West, demonstrating their commitment to supporting charitable causes.
The club is a part of the Somerset Bowls Association (SBA), and members are encouraged to apply for matches through the SBA website. Open days are held in April and May, offering prospective members the opportunity to visit the club, receive free coaching, and borrow bowls to try out at the facility. The club also features a well-stocked bar for members to enjoy.
Winscombe Bowling Club is proud to have a reputation for having one of the best greens in the country, making it an ideal destination for bowlers of all skill levels. The club invites both experienced and new players to join and offers a substantial saving on the first year's membership. The club also holds various competitions and events throughout the year, including an annual dinner and presentation evening, as well as indoor tournaments at St. Andrews.
Please note that Winscombe Bowling Club no longer has a telephone landline at the club. For more information, please refer to the club's website.
