Sifu Dean Pugh is the driving force behind Wing Chunnottingham. He has a rich history in the world of Wing Chun, having trained under the instruction of Sifu Mick Yates and achieving a 6th degree black belt level in Master Lun Gai's Fo Shan system. His desire for further growth led him to attend a Gary Lam seminar in the UK, where he was personally invited by Sifu Gary Lam to train with him in Los Angeles. Sifu Dean Pugh seized this opportunity and has since embarked on a journey of learning and training under Sifu Gary Lam's guidance.

In 2015, Sifu Dean Pugh made his first trip to Los Angeles to study the Gary Lam system directly with Sifu Gary Lam and his students. He immersed himself in training, spending seven hours a day, seven days a week, gaining invaluable knowledge and experience in the unique teaching methods of Sifu Gary Lam. This trip helped Sifu Dean Pugh recognise and appreciate how Sifu Gary Lam conveys the deep and complex ideas of Wing Chun in his self-developed, structured system.

In September of the same year, Sifu Dean Pugh and his students embarked on a road trip to Frankfurt to attend a Sifu Gary Lam seminar. This allowed his students to personally meet Sifu Gary Lam, witness his abilities, and learn from him firsthand. The seminar provided an excellent opportunity for experience sharing in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, fostering not only learning but also the building of friendships and memories.

Most recently, Sifu Dean Pugh returned to Los Angeles in January 2016 for an intensive three-month training period with Sifu Gary Lam. Training seven days a week, he accumulated over 600 hours of training and study, further enhancing his knowledge and physical abilities in the Gary Lam system.

The Gary Lam system, as described by Sifu Lam himself, encompasses five main branches of study, including crossing hand techniques, closing techniques, footwork, pushing, and pulling. In addition, students also learn the wooden man, Dragon Pole, and Double Knife techniques. Through comprehensive training and study, Sifu Dean Pugh is able to provide a well-rounded and structured curriculum to his students at Wing Chunnottingham.
