Wing Chun training at our school is divided into three phases. In Phase One (Beginner Level Grades 1-4), students learn the foundational skills of Wing Chun, including arm positions, basic footwork, and drills to understand flow and movement. Students also develop defence techniques against various attacks, such as jabs, crosses, low punches, back fists, and hooks.
In Phase Two (Intermediate Level Grades 5-8), students progress to the Chum Kiu form, which focuses on close quarter fighting, using knees and elbows, and dealing with grappling, throwing, and groundwork.
Phase Three (Advanced Level Grades 9-12) further enhances the student's skills, teaching them specialised techniques for countering kicks, knives and other striking implements, handling multiple opponents, as well as control and restraint.
As students progress through each phase, they will be tested on their knowledge and skills, and once they pass, they can move on to the next phase. The core elements of each class encompass six subjects: forms, Lat Sao (applying Wing Chun in a classroom environment), Chi Sao (developing sensitivity to pressure and reaction), punches, steps (footwork), and theory.
Upon reaching the 12th grade, students can set their sights on becoming a Technician of Wing Chun. This advanced training introduces additional forms, including Biu Tze, Wooden Dummy, Butterfly Knives, and Long Pole, leading to the achievement of the Master Level.
