At Wing Chun Kung Fu Maidstone Martial Arts, we offer adult classes for students aged 13 years and older. Our classes are designed to teach the art of Wing Chun Kung Fu to people of all ages, genders, and physical statures. Wing Chun Kung Fu is a self-defence system that focuses on finding the shortest distance between the attacker and yourself while using effective and efficient methods of simultaneous attack and defence.

Our classes are taught in a safe and controlled environment, allowing students to build confidence while gaining fitness and discipline. We also emphasise the importance of developing a pre-fight mentality, offering insights into the build-up of an aggressive confrontation and teaching students how to handle such situations.

We structure our classes into six core subjects, which are taught through either technical or physical style classes. These subjects include forms, sparring, Chi Sao (sticking hands), punches, footwork, and theory. Forms help beginners learn the positions of their arms and legs, while sparring allows students to physically apply their Wing Chun Kung Fu skills in a classroom setting. Chi Sao teaches students to stick and feel their assailant's pressure and react accordingly.

Punches are emphasised to equip students with a strong self-defence tool. Footwork is essential for balance, speed, and power in Wing Chun. Lastly, theory develops an understanding of the principles and concepts behind Wing Chun as a martial art.

Our Wing Chun Kung Fu self-defence training is divided into three phases: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. In the beginner phase, students are introduced to Wing Chun and focus on developing core basics and learning to deal with a stand-up fighter. The intermediate phase emphasises close-quarter combat and control techniques, while the advanced phase focuses on specialised self-defence scenarios such as counter-kicking, knives, and multiple opponents.

To track progress, we conduct gradings at our Maidstone Wing Chun Martial Arts school or our Regional Wing Chun Kung Fu Headquarters. During gradings, students revisit each grade in their respective phase and demonstrate their skills. Successful completion allows students to progress to the next phase and continue their journey in Wing Chun Kung Fu.
