Winchester Karate Club

Winchester Karate Club is a non-profit karate club based in Winchester. It’s a branch of the Eastleigh & Southampton Karate Club, recognised for its community spirit and involvement in charity events. The club practises traditional Shotokan Karate and is open to people from Winchester, Eastleigh, Fair Oak, Bishopstoke, Chandlers Ford, Totton, Southampton, and surrounding areas in Hampshire.

Classes at Winchester Karate Club are led by Nigel Hosking, a nationally registered Karate instructor. Occasionally, instructors from other Southern region clubs join in to provide a richer training experience. The club welcomes adults of all skill levels, from complete beginners to seasoned practitioners. They are affiliated with the Shotokan Karate Kanazawa - Ryu International Federation.

Nigel, the head instructor, is a 4th Dan (Yon Dan) with over 35 years’ experience in Shotokan Karate. He’s trained with Japanese and European Sensei and even spent some time at the Japanese Karate Association HQ in Tokyo. Outside of karate, Nigel works as an NHS Critical Care Rehabilitation Practitioner, combining his knowledge of physiology and anatomy to deliver effective karate lessons.

Nigel's skills don't stop at karate. He’s a registered Advanced Boxercise Instructor, Fitness Coach with NASM, and holds a Sport First Aid Diploma. He’s also a registered Yoga Instructor Associate and a Yoga Teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga.

Over the years, Nigel has guided many students to black belt level and organised successful karate fundraising events. In 2015, he received a special recognition award from the Japanese Karate Association.

Winchester Karate Club prides itself on being a welcoming family community, inviting both beginners and experienced students. The club’s mission is to promote the principles of Shotokan Karate, fostering a sense of peace and community. Training sessions are held at Winchester Tennis & Racquets Fitness Club, Bereweeke Road, Winchester, SO22 6AN, every Saturday from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
