A typical BJJ class at Wimbledon BJJ starts with a warm-up that includes running, break falls, rolls, and various BJJ-specific drills. These drills are constantly evolving, and each coach brings their own training methods to the classes, ensuring that every warm-up is unique.
After the warm-up, partner drills are practised, focusing on different aspects of a BJJ fight. Cross-training in Judo is highly encouraged, as Judo techniques play an important role in BJJ. Once on the ground, practitioners work on guard passing, sweeps, submissions, and positional control.
Specific training takes place, where partners practise a specific position set by the instructor. This allows students to focus and refine their techniques in a controlled setting. The class ends with rolling, where students have the opportunity to apply their skills in live sparring sessions. The instructor pairs students based on their belt and skill level to ensure balanced and productive training sessions.
At Wimbledon BJJ, we emphasise leaving your ego at the door. Our instructors prioritise safety and encourage students to tap out when necessary to prevent serious injury. Tapping out is seen as a learning opportunity and allows you to resume training after a short break.
