Wilmslow Albion Football Club, based in Wilmslow, Cheshire, is one of the oldest active football clubs in the region, established in 1919. The club is affiliated with the Football Association (FA) and is a proud member of the Manchester Football League Division 2.
Throughout its rich history, the Albion has achieved several notable successes. In the early years, the club played in the South East Lancashire League, finishing as runners-up in the 1928/9 season. They also lifted the League Shield twice in seasons 1937/8 and 1939/40, as well as the Brown Cup in 1936/7. In successive seasons 1937/8 and 1938/9, they triumphed in the Altrincham Senior Cup.
Moving on to the Mid-Cheshire League, Wilmslow Albion claimed the League Cup in 1960/1 after finishing as runners-up the previous year. Following a decline in fortunes and a near extinction, the club merged with local side Lindow and changed their name to Wilmslow Town. They competed in the Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur League, playing their home matches at Old Carnival Field, Water Lane. However, the Wilmslow Albion name was revived when the club broke away from the Wilmslow Town set-up and merged with Dean Vale in 1976/7.
Under the revived Wilmslow Albion name, the club quickly earned promotions to Division 2 and then Division 1. Season 1982/3 marked a significant milestone in their history, with the First Team securing promotion back to Division 1 by winning the second division championship. The second and third teams also clinched their division titles, showcasing the club's overall strength. During that season, the S.
E. Woolam Aggregate Trophy, the Wray Cup, and the Macclesfield F. A. Challenge Cup were among the trophies won.
In February 1986, Wilmslow Albion moved to their current home at Oakwood Farm, attracting their record attendance in July 1992 when Stockport County played a preseason friendly match. In 1998/99, the club joined the Manchester Football League, where they continue to compete today. Over the years, Wilmslow Albion has experienced varying degrees of success, including promotion to the top Division in 2015/16.
In recent years, the club has achieved various honours, including Manchester League Division 1 Promotion and Division 3 Promotion for the Reserve Team in 2015/16. They were also runners-up in the Bridgewater Cup in 2015/16 and have won multiple championships, such as Manchester League Division 2 and Division 3, as well as the Murray Shield and Open Trophy.
