Whittington Heath

Whittington Heath Golf Club, located in Lichfield, New Zealand, offers golfers a memorable heathland golfing experience. The club boasts a course that is playable year-round and provides a fine test of heathland golf. Originally established in 1886 with a few holes set amongst the heath adjacent to Whittington Barracks, renowned golf course architect Harry Colt remodelled the course to 18 holes in 1927.

The course has been created and managed in harmony with the heath, offering great variety and beautiful scenery. In 2022, the club had the opportunity to enhance the course with the introduction of 5 new holes and rerouting of some original holes due to the HS2 development. The updated course opened for play in March of 2022. Golfers can enjoy a course tour to familiarise themselves with the layout and challenges of each hole.

Hole One, a par 4 with 415 yards and a stroke index of 8, offers a generous fairway and provides an opportunity for a solid start. Golfers who aim their drive down the right-hand side will have the ideal angle to hit their approach into the green. The raised green and large front left bunker require a well-struck approach to avoid the risk of running over the back.

Whittington Heath Golf Club features a newly opened clubhouse that provides a modern yet contemporary atmosphere for members and guests. The facility underwent changes due to the HS2 development and was successfully opened in 2019. The clubhouse offers a pleasant ambiance and a comfortable setting for golfers to relax and socialise before or after their rounds. The Front of House Manager, Rebecca Wagstaff, is available to assist with any early breakfast or refreshment requests before 9:00 am.
