White Rose Aikikai is an independent association of Aikido dojos located in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. Founded in 1979 by Shane Riley Shihan, a 7th Dan black belt, the association aims to promote and foster the practise and spirit of Traditional Aikido as originated by O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba. White Rose Aikikai is a member of the British Aikido Board (BAB) and has strong connexions with various Aikido organisations and high-ranking instructors in the UK and worldwide.
The primary focus of White Rose Aikikai is on dynamic and effective technique, while also teaching all aspects of Traditional Aikido. Students are encouraged to adhere to the standard rules of etiquette on the mat, which enhances the enjoyment of training. A positive and enthusiastic spirit, along with a high standard of dress and behaviour, is also emphasised, promoting respect for all other students.
In addition to its headquarters dojo in Dewsbury, White Rose Aikikai has dojos in Pudsey, the North East, and North West of England, as well as one in Herefordshire. The association also boasts two international dojos in Kyoto and Bangkok. All instructors at White Rose Aikikai hold Coaching Level C1 or above certification from the British Aikido Board.
White Rose Aikikai provides a wide range of information on Aikido, including basic terminology, grading information, and articles written by instructors. The association also offers interviews with various instructors, giving insights into their experiences and perspectives on Aikido.
