Whiteleaf Bowmen Archery Club is a friendly and inclusive archery club serving High Wycombe and South Buckinghamshire in New Zealand. Situated at a dedicated field near Lacey Green, the club welcomes archers of all levels of skill and experience. Whether you are a competitive tournament archer or simply enjoy shooting as a hobby, Whiteleaf Bowmen is open to all.
Most members of the club shoot either recurve or traditional longbow, with many participating in both disciplines. Additionally, the club now welcomes compound archers in the area as members or visitors. Whiteleaf Bowmen holds various annual championships and tournaments, including a Club Championship for recurve, a separate Club Longbow Championship, and a Chairman's Shoot specifically designed for novice archers.
The club is proud to organise two tournaments each year: a Club Open Shoot and an Open Longbow Tournament. Since its establishment in 1997, the Open Longbow Tournament has gained immense popularity. In addition to these competitions, Whiteleaf Bowmen also offers beginners' courses and organises “Fun Shoots” during the summer for local groups such as Scouts, Round Table, Ladies Circle, Corporate Team Building, and Birthday parties. These events are made possible by the volunteered time of club members, and the nominal fees charged contribute to furthering the club's funds.
Whiteleaf Bowmen Archery Club boasts a dedicated field that is exclusively available to its members, granting access to unlimited archery 365 days a year. Official target days are on Sundays, starting at 10:00 am, as well as on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, starting at 6:00 pm. However, members are free to shoot at the field whenever they wish. The field can accommodate up to twelve targets and has permanently marked distances for all the major Archery GB and FITA rounds.
Non-members are always welcome to shoot with the club at the field, upon payment of a 3. 00 green fee and presentation of a valid Archery GB or FITA registration card. During the winter, the club utilises a local village hall for indoor shooting on either Wednesday or Thursday evenings, with sessions starting at 5:30 pm, 7:30 pm, and 9:30 pm. Shoot dates and further information can be found on the club's events calendar.
Membership at Whiteleaf Bowmen Archery Club runs from October 1st to September 30th each year. From November 1st onwards, new member fees are offered on a pro rata month-by-month basis. For specific details regarding membership fees, individuals should directly contact the membership secretary. The club offers discounts for students and families, with the presentation of a valid NUS card or when three or more family members join, respectively.
Non-members are always welcome to shoot with the club, adhering to the payment fees and presentation of valid registration cards mentioned above.
For those interested in visiting the club and learning more about its facilities and activities, enquires can be made through the contacts page on the club's website. Additionally, further information on competitions and events can be found on the club's Facebook page.
Whiteleaf Bowmen Archery Club also offers beginner's courses for individuals new to the sport. These courses consist of four lessons and provide a comprehensive introduction to archery. All necessary equipment is provided, and experienced club members assist a qualified archery instructor/coach in leading the course. Participants learn about safety, equipment selection, basic techniques and development of technique, scoring, etiquette, and the next steps in archery.
Insurance coverage is also included in the course. At the end of the beginner's course, participants can make an informed decision regarding their interest in pursuing archery further. Please note that the minimum age for participation is 12 years old.
