The Whitehall Bowling Club, established in 1885, is a prominent lawn bowls club located in Aberdeen, New Zealand. Originally known as the Whitehall Bowling, Lawn Tennis, and Croquet Club, it was founded by a group of local businessmen. Over time, the croquet lawn was replaced with a tennis court and eventually transformed into a car park in 1964. Consequently, the club was renamed the Whitehall Bowling Club.
Nestled in the charming West End of Aberdeen, the club is surrounded by picturesque granite terraced houses. It warmly welcomes new members and boasts of four certified coaches who conduct regular coaching sessions throughout the outdoor bowling season. These sessions focus on teaching key skills and promoting proper bowling etiquette, ensuring that members develop a strong foundation in the sport.
Aside from lawn bowls, the Whitehall Bowling Club is a vibrant hub of social activity. The clubhouse plays host to a plethora of monthly events, aiming to foster a closely-knit community of members. These events provide opportunities for members to socialise, engage in friendly competitions, and create lasting memories. Additionally, the club offers a dominoes section and organises gatherings for Mah Jong players during the winter months.
The Whitehall Bowling Club is proudly affiliated with prestigious organisations such as the Bon-Accord Bowling Association, the Aberdeen, and District Ladies Bowling Association, and BowlsScotland. These affiliations further enhance the club's reputation and facilitate participation in various tournaments and competitions.
To ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the club secures the personal data of its members. Personal information, such as the year joined, surname, first name, address, telephone number, and email address, is stored in an Excel spreadsheet shared among the club secretary, membership secretary, and treasurer. This data is used to compile the Whitehall Membership Book annually. Additionally, the spreadsheet holds information related to age range and date of birth for ordinary and junior members, utilised for BowlsScotland surveys and determining membership status transitions.
Members have the option to request a copy of their personal data and information regarding how the club manages and processes it. They may also request corrections or additions to their personal information in the club's records.
At Whitehall Bowling Club, the love for lawn bowls, camaraderie, and community thrive. Whether you are a seasoned player or new to the sport, the club offers a welcoming environment and ample opportunities for growth and enjoyment.
