Gemma, the Director of Whitby Dance, brings her extensive experience and love for dance to the school. Having started dancing at a young age, Gemma is trained in a variety of dance styles, including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Lyrical, Contemporary, Commercial Jazz, Hip Hop, and Musical Theatre. She studied at the Australian Dance Performance Institute in Queensland, Australia, and went on to dance professionally all over the world for eight years with Carnival Cruise-lines. After teaching dance in Australia, Gemma has now returned to New Zealand to share her passion and open her own dance school.

Whitby Dance offers classes that focus on fun, building confidence, developing good posture, and technique. Whether a student aspires to a career in dance or simply enjoys dancing for recreational purposes, Gemma ensures that there are classes to suit every individual's needs. In addition to classes for all age groups and levels, Whitby Dance also offers a specialised programme called Bumblebees. This programme introduces preschool-aged children to the world of dance in a fun and imaginative way. Baby Bumblebees classes are designed for children aged 2-3 and provide an interactive introduction to music and dance. Parents and caregivers are welcome to join in on the fun.

Bumblebees classes, for children aged 3-5, focus on building coordination and a love for movement and dance. Using props, accessories, and exciting themes, these classes help children express themselves creatively while laying the foundation for ballet and jazz.

For those little ones who love to bust a move, Bumblebees Hip Hop classes are available for 4. 5 and 5-year-olds. These high-energy classes introduce children to the world of Hip Hop while building confidence and a Hip Hop attitude.
