Eddie, the organiser, wants to share a bit about Whipsnade Park Golf Club with the sports community.
Whipsnade Park Golf Club, located in Berkhamsted, is a welcoming spot for golfers. Nestled in the quiet Hertfordshire countryside at 700 ft on the Chiltern Hills, it's sandwiched between the charming villages of Studham and Dagnall. ZSL Whipsnade Zoo forms a natural boundary on two sides.
The main draw here is the 18-hole course spread over 150 acres of lush parkland. Renowned for its clever design, it caters to golfers of all skill levels, offering a mix of challenges amidst peaceful, scenic surroundings.
The clubhouse, once a farm building from the 1850s, retains its original flint walls and oak beams. On arrival, everyone’s greeted warmly and can enjoy a variety of drinks and locally-sourced homemade food. It’s a comfy spot to kick back after a game or during events.
The club has a rich backstory, going back to 1974. Larry Webb, a former England rugby player turned entrepreneur, bought Dagnall Hill Farm and teamed up with local golfer George Hamshaw to design the course. Over the years, the club saw further developments, including the planting of 20,000 trees to enhance its beauty.
Adding to its charm, the club is home to a thriving wildlife population. You might even spot a wallaby or two while enjoying your game.
Situated on the Chiltern Hills, right on the borders of Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Bedfordshire, the club offers stunning panoramic views. The course is a manageable 6,700 yards from the Champions' tees and is easy to walk, thanks to its gently rolling terrain.
All in all, Whipsnade Park Golf Club is a hidden treasure, offering a challenging course, friendly atmosphere, and lovely natural surroundings. It’s the ideal spot for both seasoned golfers and those just starting out.
