Welcome to the Whangaroa Sport Fishing Club, located in the picturesque town of Whangaroa in New Zealand. The club warmly welcomes members, affiliated club members, and anyone else who wishes to enjoy the many amenities that the club has to offer. Even if you are not a member, you can become a restricted member and enjoy our facilities for a day at nocharge.
The club is open seven days a week, from 12:00pm until closing time. We also have the Whangaroa Sport Fish Cafe, which is open from 12:00pm until 3:00pm, and then again from 5:00pm until 8:30pm. The café offers an impressive A La Carte menu and snacks that showcase the abundant seafood available in our beautiful harbour.
We pride ourselves in offering various facilities and amenities to enhance your experience at our club. We have ample car parking available for both club and marina use. If you require accommodation, we can provide information about the available options in the Whangaroa area. Additionally, we offer free wifi to all our patrons, which can be accessed by obtaining the password from the bar.
For your convenience, we have supplies readily available. Ice, salt ice, and bait can be found across the road at the Marlin Hotel. If you need essentials, our nearest town, Kaeo, is only a 10-minute drive away. Moreover, our club members receive a 10% discount at Kaeo when they present their membership card.
Diesel fuel is available at the Clansman Wharf in Whangaroa (BP or Diners Fuel Card required), as well as across the harbour in Totara North (Mobil Card required). Diving fills can be done at Waipapa Dive Shop, which is a 30-minute drive from the club.
The Whangaroa Sport Fishing Club is not just a place to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery; we are also a hub for fishing enthusiasts. We are affiliated with the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council (NZSFC) and the International Game Fish Association (IGFA). We host an annual calendar of fishing competitions, ranging from big game to bottom fishing, with a wide selection of sections to fish and fantastic prizes to be won.
Our club is steeped in history and legends. Established in February of 1925, we were originally known as the Whangaroa NZ Swordfish & Big Game Incorporated Club, and later became the Whangaroa Big Gamefish Club. The Whangaroa township itself is known as 'The Jewel of the North', 'Marlin Country', and a 'Fisherman's Paradise'. With prime game fishing grounds near the harbour entrance, as well as Stephensons Island and the Ruahine Reef offshore, there are always plenty of fish to be caught.
The nearby Cavalli Islands are renowned for their world-class game fishing opportunities.
