Whalan Model Car Club is a car racing track located in Whalan, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. It is a part of the Castle Hill RC On Road club, which has been in operation for over 25 years. The primary track venue is the Undercover Ring at Castle Hill Showground in Sydney, where races are held on Friday nights.
The track at Castle Hill Showground is 700sqm in size and has additional space for pit areas and canteen facilities. The surface of the track is concrete painted with Boral Coat, providing added traction. The track is also fully undercover and well-lit, allowing for racing events in any weather condition.
In May 2020, Castle Hill RC merged with Whalan Model Car Club and began running electric club days and events at the Whalan Reserve track. This outdoor track is located in the Sydney suburb of Whalan and covers an area of 2000sqm. It features a bitumen surface and provides ample pit space for participants. The track also includes an elevated drivers stand, offering a great view of the racing action.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the club emphasises the importance of staying home if anyone is feeling unwell or may have been exposed to the virus. This is to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants and staff.
The club regularly updates its racing schedule, with Friday night races at Castle Hill Showground starting at 7pm. The track is open for practise from 5pm. Upcoming race dates include November 24th, December 1st, 8th, and 15th, as well as dates in January and February.
Similarly, the Whalan track hosts Sunday racing events, with races beginning at 10:15am and practise sessions starting at 9:00am. Upcoming race dates for the Whalan track include December 10th, January 28th, and February 11th and 25th.
Whalan Model Car Club offers various race classes for participants. These include the Novice class, which is an entry-level class for 4-wheel drive touring cars with a maximum power of 21. 5 turn brushless motors or 540 brushed motors. Other classes include Formula 1, Sportsman 21.
5, Stock 13. 5, Modified, TCR FWD, and Tamiya Truck.
For Formula 1 races, the club follows the Australian National Rules published on RC Formula 1. The TCR FWD class allows any front-wheel drive, full independent suspension chassis, following dimensions as per RCRA EP On Road Rules for ISTC. Tamiya Truck races require specific kits and motor/ESC combinations, with additional rules regarding body shells, batteries, and weight.
