The West Yorkshire Shotokan Karate Association (WYSKA) is a warm and welcoming Shotokan Karate group, set in Batley and Horbury. They invite everyone aged 6 and up to join, offering a family setting where adults and children can train together.
WYSKA focuses on a traditional syllabus with a combat-effective bias, emphasising traditional Shotokan Kata and training methods. Classes suit all fitness levels and abilities, encouraging everyone to move at their own pace. Affiliated with the British Combat Karate Association, WYSKA students have the chance to train with top instructors from various combat martial arts.
Classes run three times a week at two venues. Batley sessions are at The Whitfield Centre on Mondays from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Horbury classes are hosted at the British Combat Academy on Wednesdays from 7:30pm to 9:00pm and Sundays from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
Phil Stacey, a 5th Dan black belt, leads the instructor team. Other instructors include John Ryan (3rd Dan), Brian Gomersall (2nd Dan), and Paul Jones (3rd Dan), all providing expert guidance to students at every level.
For more details and the latest updates, visit the WYSKA website or follow the club's Facebook group and Instagram page. The website features a photo gallery, news articles, and information on upcoming events.
